Step-By-Step Installation

Pick your device type below and follow each step in order. Do not enable the SonaSim line as primary data until you are in destination coverage unless instructed by support.

1

Open Cellular Settings

Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data depending on iOS region).

2

Add eSIM

Tap Add eSIM and choose Use QR Code from your SonaSim order email.

3

Name the New Line

Label it SonaSim or Travel Data so it is easy to identify later.

4

Set Line Preferences

Keep your home line as default for voice/SMS, and assign SonaSim for mobile data when traveling.

5

On Arrival: Enable Data Roaming

Open the SonaSim line settings and turn on Data Roaming. Keep "Allow Cellular Data Switching" disabled unless required.

1

Open SIM Manager

Navigate to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager (wording varies by brand).

2

Add Mobile Plan

Select Add eSIM or Download SIM, then scan your SonaSim QR code.

3

Confirm Download

Allow the profile to download fully before leaving the screen. Interruptions can corrupt setup.

4

Choose Default SIM Behavior

Keep your primary SIM for calls/SMS and set SonaSim as data SIM only when in destination country.

5

Enable Roaming On SonaSim Line

Turn on roaming only for SonaSim profile and verify APN auto-populates after network attach.

Installation Methods And Timing

Both QR and manual methods are supported. Install early, then activate when needed.

Method 1: QR Code (Recommended)

Fastest path for most users. Scan from your order email while connected to Wi-Fi.

  • Use a second screen if scanning from the same phone is not possible.
  • Do not crop or resize QR image before scanning.
  • If QR fails, switch to manual activation details.

Method 2: Manual Activation

Use SM-DP+ and activation code when camera permissions or scanner fails.

  • Copy/paste carefully to avoid hidden spaces.
  • Keep letters and symbols exactly as provided.
  • Restart device after install if profile appears inactive.

What To Do After Installation

Activation usually starts when the plan first connects in a supported country, not when installed.

Before Flight

Install profile over Wi-Fi. Keep line enabled but data line unchanged until arrival.

On Landing

Select SonaSim as mobile data line, enable roaming for that line, and briefly toggle airplane mode if network attach is slow.

First 5 Minutes

Wait for registration and signal bars. If no data, check APN or restart device once.

During Trip

Leave home SIM active for calls/SMS only and disable background-heavy app updates on roaming.

Common Errors And Fixes

Use this quick table before contacting support. Most issues are resolved in under five minutes.

Advanced Tips For Better Reliability

These settings reduce background usage and improve reliability while traveling.

Data And Battery Control
